Should Labour voters vote Lib Dem where Labour is in third place?

According to Ed Balls in Lib Dem-Conservative marginals Labour voters should consider voting for Liberal Democrats. Is he right? Can it work?

Hi Mike

Good to hear from you!

Something tells me that this would be a good thing to do. I know that opinion polls can be volatile, and that the only poll that really counts is the one on Thursday. However, I think even the most optimistic Labour supporter would agree that we're unlikely to win this election outright - certainly not with any sort of a working majority.

In these circumstances, and with the Lib Dems apparently set for a significant increase in their share of the vote, I think it'd make sense for Labour supporters to vote tactically in Con/LD marginals. The Lib Dems are much more the natural allies of Labour than they are of the Tories, and in my view a Labour/Lib Dem coalition is infinitely preferable to letting Dave, George and their hench-people loose on the nation!

Talk to you soon.

Dom
