Conservative Home and the Christian Institute

I have not met Tim Montgomerie (founder of Conservativehome) but I get the impression that he is a decent enough fellow. One wonders therefore why his website is publicising the reactionary, and at times rather bigoted, organisation called the Christian Institute (today's CH page has a link to a Christian Institute video).

Who or what are The Christian Institute? According to their website:

The Christian Institute exists for "the furtherance and promotion of the Christian religion in the United Kingdom" and "the advancement of education". The Christian Institute is a nondenominational Christian charity committed to upholding the truths of the Bible. We are supported by individuals and churches throughout the UK. We believe that the Bible is the supreme authority for all of life and we hold to the inerrancy of Scripture. We are committed to upholding the sanctity of life from conception.

The reality, it appears to me, is that the Christian Institute mainly exists to provide a platform to attack the rights of homosexuals. If you glance at the the 20 press releases they have issued since January 2007, 50% of them attack 'gay rights' and almost all of the others relate to sexual morality or gambling. Apparently the Christian Institute has no opinion on the war in Iraq or the conflict in Afghanistan, nothing to say about the genocide in Darfur or the need for greater international cooperation to combat climate change.

I hope that Tim sees the light and removes the link as soon as possible.

I added the link to the video and don't intend to remove it. It was a very worrying case even just from a civil liberties angle and the video is sufficiently interesting and popular to merit a link I think.

If I believed that the motive behind the video was the protection of civil liberties then I would agree with you and see no problem in the link. My difficulty is that given the other material on their (The Christian Institute)website - which is otherwise sadly lacking in any discussion about civil liberty - the true intention behind the video is all too clear.
